Today I will share Confirmed Report about FaceBook Search Engine. Facebook is building a Google rival – one that would use your site and your friends’ taste? A team of more than 20 Facebook engineers – led by a former Google programmers – are at work in a much better search engine on the site, according to a Business Week report.
The idea, according to two sources, is to take better advantage of the piles of materials Facebook users create on – and off – site each day. With people to share status updates and support the brand pages on the web, and use the Facebook “Like” button to select articles and videos from external sites, there is certainly plenty to take advantage of.
TechNob contacted Facebook for more information and got this reply from a company spokesman: “We do not comment on rumors and speculation surrounding the products.”
Google has increased its presence in the social space recently opened Google + network in the fall and “Search Plus Your World” for the lukewarm response earlier this year. So it’s interesting to see Facebook might make a stronger move in the search world.
A large-scale transition to a “semantic web”, where online data is available in more nuanced and complex approach is gaining momentum among tech futurists. Wikipedia recently announced a project called MediaWiki Data aiming to make its contents smarter by cross-update of Wikipedia pages when they are edited. A more robust Facebook search function would be another step towards the Semantic Web.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has consistently downplayed the extent of direct competition between Facebook and Google. “I do not think this will be the type of situation when a company wins it all,” he told Charlie Rose of PBS in the fall. If Business Week report is true, but it will add an additional area of increased competition overlap between the two Silicon Valley giants.
